Swansea Rally Boost for Plaid

The rally, staged by All Under One Banner and Yes Cymru during May, saw an estimated seven thousand people, march through the streets of Wales' second city before hearing addresses at a rally calling for Wales to gain full national status as an independent country.

The march and rally, the first since the Covid pandemic, was fully supported by Plaid's Swansea and Gower organisation, and attracted a larger than expected number of supporters.

Polling has shown that support for an independent Wales  is increasing, with one tracker poll showing 36 per cent in favour of self-rule, compared with only 5 per cent less  than ten years ago.

The success of the rally will provide impetus for Plaid Cymru ahead of expected elections for the Westminster parliament and Senedd Cymru, with the party now beginning the process of adopting candidates for local constituencies, whose boundaries have nearly all undergone substantial revision by the Boundary Commission for Wales.

Swansea only got one out of 4 bids from the UK government levelling up fund.

By now, we know that Westminster's Levelling Up programme has nothing to do with need or poverty, as two thirds of the successful bids were from wealthy Tory held Constituencies.
