Plaid Cymru has called on the Welsh Government to step in and ensure a Swansea Post Office remains open.
Former South-west Wales regional Senedd Member Dr Dai Lloyd says that imminent closure of Sketty Post Office would be a major setback for the community.
"This is a busy Post Office which delivers a vital service to local people, and this unexpected closure would hit local businesses as well as the many other people who make use of it", said Dr Lloyd.
"The Welsh Government should intervene now to make sure that the Post Office stays open", said Dr Lloyd in a letter to Welsh Minister for the Economy Vaughan Gething.
"This latest threat demonstrates that Wales needs control of its postal services, and that the semi-privatised model forced on us by Westminster just doesn't work."
Sketty Post Office is set to close on Monday 27 February and will not reopen, according to a poster displayed in the window.
